Content

The file contains correspondence in the form of letters, memoranda, and proclamations regarding the establishment of a department for the purpose of administering the estates of orphans who have no legal guardians. The suggestion was agreed upon by the Adviser to the Government of Bahrain, the three Shia Qadis of Bahrain, and the Ruler of Bahrain, and was raised to the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. for approval. The aim of the department was to lessen the existing abuses in the system and to safeguard the interests of minors and orphans.In later correspondence it is stated that the Department of Minors’ Estates was established in 1938. The file also contains a list of regulations for the Department, both in Arabic and in English.

The main correspondence is between the Adviser to the Government of Bahrain (Charles Dalrymple Belgrave), the Ruler of Bahrain (Shaikh Hamad bin ‘Isa al-Khalifah), and the Bahrain Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. .
