in letter EXT.4763/41 of the £0th /ugust frcm the
Indio Office to the P’oreign Office I am directed by Mr.
ecretary Fden to transmit to you herewith, to be laid
before the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, a copy
of o note from the United States Embassy, from which it
will be seen that the Navy Department desire to transfer
their naval observer at Bahrain to Basra and possibly
later to Fnorramshahr.
2. Tn Vr.Eden’s view the United states Embassy
might be told that His Majesty’s Government for their
part welcome this appointment, that the British
authorities will give Lieutenant Lockhart all possible
facilities and that His Majesty’s Representatives at
Bagdad and Tehran will be instructed to support, if so
desired, the approach by their United states colleagues
to the Iraqi and Persian Governments respectively. I
am to enquire whether Their Lordships concur in this
course of action.

War Office, /ir Ministry and India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. .
