View of the British Consulate and the offices of Messrs Lynch at Basra from across the river. In the foreground a boat carries a group of people from left to right. In the background several boats are loaded with merchandise which is covered by tarpaulin. On shore, even more merchandise is piled high in mounds and covered in tarpaulin to the left of the image.
A flagstaff right of centre in the background indicates the location of the Consulate.
