The letter is forwarding a copy of a communication:
- A copy of a letter from James Henderson to Claudius James Rich, Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Turkish Arabia A term used by the British officials to describe the territory roughly corresponding to, but not coextensive with, modern-day Iraq under the control of the Ottoman Empire. , dated 16 March 1819. The enclosed letter concerns a petition from the widow of Hajee Khuleel Khan [Hājjī Qulī Khān], forwarded in a letter from the Resident dated 15 September 1818. It requests information from the Resident as to what portion of the pension of Hajee Khuleel Khan should be paid out to members of his family; in the meantime, the Resident is authorised to advance the widow whatever sums of money he deems necessary for her subsistence.
The enclosure itself is also forwarding a letter:
- A copy of a letter from John Adam, Chief Secretary to the Government, Fort William, Calcutta to Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government, Political Department, Bombay, dated 19 January 1819. It is requesting information on the state of the surviving members of Hajee Khuleel Khan's family, to determine how much financial assistance they require.
