The letter is requesting the advancement of a sum of money to Captain Lichfield for the purchase of horses for the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. . As per the enclosed letter from E Baker, Commissary General, Bombay to Captain Lichfield, dated 15 February 1819. The enclosed letter informs the Captain that orders will be obtained from the Bombay Government for the purchase of fifty horses; a list of the sums of money to be drawn from various residencies is included.
