The letter announces the appointment of James Morley as joint Resident at Bushire, with John Sebastian Natter to return to Bombay. It is declared that the detention of the Defiance at Bushire for protection is no longer necessary as the Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. has been given assurances by the Caun's [Karim Khan] ambassador in Basra that the English settlement is safe. There are several orders:
- not to interfere with Karim Khan or the Meer [Mīr Muhanna] but to refer to the Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. for all such matters;
- to pay any amount claimed by the Dutchman, John Jacob Christian, for losses incurred by the English while at Gombroon [Bandar Abbas];
- to send Mr Botham and some Madeira wine to Basra on the next available boat;
- to stop the accusations against Benjamin Jervis;
- to send the Eagle and a storeship onwards to Basra as soon as they arrive.
