to me, and it certainly still bore the marks of what he described it to
have been, although much worn down by ploughing. On sketching
the head of a spear before him, such as I had seen in the sculptures of
Persepolis, he said that it was originally of that shape; and on com
paring its size with those in the hands of the large figures in the ruins
I found it exactly to correspond.
