The letter covers several things:

  • the need for trankeys to assist in the attack on Carrack [Kharg Island] and suggests why the Bushire Sheikhs are resisting to assist in this way;
  • an account is given by Lieutenant Field of the loss of two trankeys when the Wolfe was caught in a storm and was forced to return to Bushire;
  • the argument against removing the Company's effects so soon is made, fearing it may upset Carim Caun [Karim Khan] and the Sheikhs of Bushire at this crucial time;
  • an urgent request for cash is submitted due to the factory An East India Company trading post. being in debt;
  • it is reported that John Hermit, the Bushire doctor, has died;
  • a postscript, dated 17 May 1768, gives details of a packet received and the purchase of boats at Bushire that will join the fleet at Kharg.
