Letter regarding Cholera which has been in the vicinity of Bushire and is now spreading towards Busreh [Basra]; Pelly's horses and Edwards inability to sell any owing to the state of the Bombay market; a statement drawn up by Edwards of the modifications which could be made to the establishment at Bushire without incurring any extra expense for Government;

A postscript to the letter informs Pelly that the audit office will not allow Edwards any extra allowance for his having taken charge of the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. unless he is officially gazetted as 'Officiating Resident' and regarding rumours that Pelly is to be posted to Aden instead of returning to Bushire.

• Memo by Mr James Charles (Edwards), dated 17 October 1865, regarding the possibility of there being 150 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. available to increase the pay of any of the Assistants should the proposed remodelling of the establishment be approved.
