About this record

Content

Warden writes to acknowledge receipt of Bruce's letter of 27 October 1819, stating that the Governor in Council requests more information on Bruce's representation of Sultan ben Suggar [Sultan bin Saqr], chief of Rasel Khyma [Ra's al-Khaymah]. Warden writes that Bruce's description of Sultan bin Saqr as a 'sanguinary monster' is at variance with that in the records of the Bombay Government, which considers that the chief of Ra's al-Khaymah has not exercised any significant degree of control in the area for some years, because of the growing influence of the Wahabee [ Wahhābī A follower of the Islamic reform movement known as Wahhabism; also used to refer to the people and territories ruled by the Al-Saud family. ] tribe in the region.
