The letter is a covering letter, enclosing a copy of a letter sent by Abdul Hassun, to the Right Honourable Chairman of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 28 January 1820. The enclosed letter relates to financial claims being made against Muhammad Ismail Khan, son of the deceased Persian Envoy Haji Khalil Khan, to the sum of 27,886 Tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. . Of this total, William Bruce was guarantor of 18,886 Tomans 10,000 Persian dinars, or a gold coin of that value. . The letter states that Khan fled to Europe, presumably to escape his debts. Hassun states that he hoped to meet with Khan in England, but that Khan chose to remain in Bordeaux.
