In the name of God the Merciful, the Compassionate,
The reason for writing the deed of agreement is:
That ^Ve, Shaikh Abdullah bin Qasim ath-Thani Ruler of Qatr,
on my own behalf and on behalf of my successors and assigns, and
I, Charles Clark Hylles, agent for the Anglo-Persian Oil Company
Ltd. have consented and agreed to conclude this Agreement for a
full period of Seventy Five Years on the conditions set forth
hereafter: and that the agreement has been completed between us on
principles of good will and good faith, both of us praying God
for success and relying on Him for help.
Condition First, I, Shaikh Abdullah bin Qasim ath-Thani, grant to
the Company, according to this agreement, the exclusive right to
explore, prospect, drill for, extract, carry away, export and
refine and sell petroleum, naphtha, natural gases, ozokerite,
asphalt and derivatives thereof, throughout my State of Qatr;
but if the said Company discovers other mines than the said
substances, for instance if it discovers gold, iron, coal, etc. it
shall have no right to take possession of the same, but must give
me a report about them, and I shall then have full right to take
possession of the said mines without any opposition or
obstruction.
Condition Second. The aforesaid Company shall have full right
to operate in any part of the State of Qatr; but it is incumbent
upon it not to operate on lands where religious buildings are
found or on lands where religious buildings are constructed in
future according to the general custom, or on cemeteries
existing in the different part of the State, and I, Shaikh
Abdullah bin Qasim ath-Thani will inform it of the existence of
such religious buildings or cemeteries, so that it may know them.
The phrase "Staiie of Qatr" means all the territories ruled by me.
