The letter and its enclosures relate to the wounding and subsequent death of a Kutif [Al-Qaṭīf] man by the crew of a boat from Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], and Jones’s efforts to mediate and seek compensation in the matter. The enclosures are as follows:
1. The translation of a letter (folio 63) from Shaikh Zayid bin Khuleefa [Zayid bin Khalīfah], chief of Abu Dhabi, received 24 December 1856, in which Shaikh Zayid accepts the compensation or blood money, asking for a short respite to pay it;
2. The translation of a letter (folio 64) from Jones to the British Agent at Bahrain , dated 26 December 1856, informing the Agent of the Shaikh of Abu Dhabi’s willingness to pay compensation, enclosing a copy of the letter from the Shaikh, for the perusal of the chief of Al-Qaṭīf.
