About this record

Content

The letter is enclosing a translation of a firmaun [ firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). ] from Hossain Ali Meerza [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā], Prince at Sheraz [Shiraz], received by the Resident on 24 August 1822. The firmaun informs the Resident that orders have been issued to detain the Bussora Merchant at Bushire, as one fourth of the cargo belongs to the heirs of Hajee Abdella Kermonee [Hājjī ‘Abdullāh Karmūnī]. The firmaun also notes that as three fourths of the cargo belongs to Shaik Gorlam Hossain, measures have been taken to inform him of the vessel's detention, so that he may claim the value of his goods.

This information is being communicated to the Bombay Government, to ensure that it is understood that, from the point of view of the Persian authorities, the Bussora Merchant is not being detained unlawfully.
