The letter and its enclosures are related to an incident of piracy committed against a Bahrain boat by subjects of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], first reported by Kemball in December 1854. The enclosed items (a report of the incident by the British Agent at Bahrain, Hajee Jassim [Hajjī Jāsim] is mentioned but not enclosed) include:
1. The translation of list of the property plundered from the vessel (folio 123);
2. Letter no.262 of 1855 (folios 124-25) from Kemball to Commodore R. Ethersey, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Squadron, dated 6 august 1855, containing instructions for the pursual of reparations for the act of piracy;
3. The translation of a letter (folios 126-27) from Shaikh Zayid bin Khaleefa [Zayd bin Khalīfah] chief of Abu Dhabi, to Kemball, dated 3 July 1855. Shaikh Zayid relates the circumstances of his predecessor’s deposition and flight, and pledges himself to the maritime peace treaty.
