About this record
- Content
The letter concerns events on the Arab coast, in anticipation of the arrival of the Wahhabi forces from Qatif. Kemball reports that he has travelled to Sharjah, and reports on the current situation, while many of the local chiefs have met with the Wahhabi forces at Brymee [al Buraimi]. Included with Kemball's letter is a translated extract from a letter from Hajee Yacoob, the British Agent at Sharjah, addressed to Kemball and dated 7 March 1853. Yacoob's letter states that the Wahhabi forces, under the leadership of Sheikh Sultan Abdullah bin Fysul, demand the restoration of Sohar to Ges, Son of Agar, and payment of the expedition expenses and tribute. Yacoob also reports on the arrival of supplies and other forces at al Buraimi for the expedition, and of engagements agreed between Ameer Fysul and various tribal leaders.
