About this record

Content

This letter concerns Sheik Houssein's appeal for Samuel Hennell to be present at a meeting between the Sheik and the Sirteep, Moostufa Kooly Khan, on board the HC steam frigate Auckland. Hennell reports that he is prepared to obtain Commodore John Patterson Porter's consent for the Sheik and the Sirteep to meet on board the Auckland, but that he has declined the Sheik's request for his presence, on the grounds that he has orders from his own Government not to mix himself up in the internal affairs of this country.
