About this record

Content

Samuel Hennell refers to his despatch of 31 May 1850, letter no. 52, in which he enclosed a copy of his letter (no. 169, dated 26 April 1850) to Her Majesty's Minister at the Court of Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel Justin Sheil, concerning piracy committed against a Congoon [Kangān] vessel by the subjects of the Sheik of Nabend. Hennell encloses a copy of Sheil's response (not included), dated 11 June 1850, which sanctions the seizure of vessels if necessary. Hennell informs Arthur Malet that he has written to Sheik Yoosoof, calling on him to inform Hennell as to whether he is willing to give up the plundered property. Hennell encloses a translation of this letter, which is dated 17 September 1850.
