About this record
- Content
Peter Stephen encloses an extract from a letter, dated 4 January 1850, from Stephen to His Excellency Lieutenant-Colonel Justin Sheil, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of Persia. The extract reports that on 16 December 1849, the Mooshtahead [Mujtahid], Syed Assadolla, returned to Ispahan [Eşfahān] from one of the neighbouring villages, where he had stayed for about forty days, under the pretence of displeasure at the imprudence of his brother's failure to refrain from supporting the cause of those who had rebelled against the Governor of Ispahan. Stephen describes a recent cannonade, carried out by the Governor's forces on the rebels' bulwarks. Stephen states that the cannonade ended after Syed Assadolla sent a message to the Governor requesting that the attacks be stopped.
