Burmese War, 1824-26.—The Seryice received War Batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. , # on the scale per
diem granted to the Army, according to the Regulations ; and in addition, the
Governor-Greneral in Council, by Greneral Orders, dated the 3rd of August, 1826,
granted to the Officers and men engaged in the Burmese War, a donation of six
months' batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. to those who had served for a period of not less than twelve
months, and half that amount to such as had served a less period. On the 19th
of October, 1827, a second Greneral Order was issued from the same authority,
stating that the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. had authorised the issue of a second donation
of batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. of a like amount, to the forces engaged in Ava and Arracan, which was
made applicable to the Bombay Marine The navy of the East India Company. by an Order of the Bombay Grovernment,
dated 22nd of September, 1828.
By Grovernment Letter of the 24th of November, 1832, and Government
General Order of the 10th of October, 1835, the following rates of batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. to the
various grades of the Indian Navy, were authorised in supersession of those
formerly existing:—

Under a Resolution of the Governor-General in Council of the 4th of August,
1841, the Officers and men of the Indian Navy were awarded the following scale
of batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. , also applicable to similar grades of the Royal Navy, under the conditions
established by orders of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 22nd of December, 1786,
and the 4th of August, 1791:—

in the Indian Navy, was payable at the following rates :—
Assistant Apothecaries . . . Rs. 30 per month.
Hospital Assistants .... Rs. 5 „
On the 2nd of December, 1854, the rate of w-ar batta An extra allowance of pay granted to soldiers involved in special field service or to public servants on special duty. for European and country-
trained Engineers was fixed at Rs. 3 per diem. On the 14th of November, 1861,
the rate for Natives was fixed at Rs. 3 per month.
* The Military and Naval forces engaged in Burmali also received Prize-money, for we find that
an Order was published on the 7th of March, 1838, directing those entitled to participate, to forward
their claims to the Superintendent.
