ARRIVAL AT BAGDAD. [CH. XVIIL
Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. 's garden ; and in half an hour more we (in-
chored just above the Bridge of Boats at Bagdad.
Mr. Rich, on his return to Bagdad from his expe
dition to Koordistan, received an offer from the Hon.
Mount Stuart Elphinstone, Governor of Bombay,
ot a situation at the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , which he accepted;
and as soon as he had settled his affairs at Bagdad,
he left it, to the grief of a large proportion of the
inhabitants, and proceeded down the Tigris to Bus-
sora, of which voyage the following is an account.
Mr. Kich had made the same voyage so many times,
that lie did not, upon the present occasion, keep
a very minute Journal. In order to supply defi
ciencies, some of his former Journals are given in
the Appendix.
