In this letter, received 24 January 1802, Samuel Manesty, Resident at Bussora [Basra], acknowledges the receipt of a letter, dated 25 December 1801, from Nawab An honorific title; an official acting as a provincial deputy ruler in South Asia; or a significant Muslim landowner in nineteenth century India. Mirza Mehedy Ally Khaun [Mirza Mahdi 'Ali Khan Bahadur], and informs the Resident that in future he will communicate with him in English. Manesty goes on to write that the Recovery now proceeds to Bushire, on her way to Muscat and Bombay. He states that he has limited the ship's stay at Bushire to twenty-four hours.
