Letter regarding Hojel's having received confirmation of his position as Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Surgeon and that the medical authorities are refusing to let him leave as they cannot replace him.

The letter also discusses Hojel's intention of travelling to Poona [Pune] to thank the Governor of Bombay for the appointment and to get the situation resolved.
