(b) For securing the observance of any Treaty or arrangement, for the
time being in force, relating to any place within the limits of
this Order, or of any native or local law or custom, except where
the context otherwise requires and expressly and specially pro
vided for in this Order, whether relating to trade, commerce,
revenue, or any other matter.
(c) For amending, modifying, or repealing with respect to places
within the limits of this Order any Acts or enactments which
are made applicable or have been brought into operation in
those places by or under any of the provisions of Article 7 of
this Order.
(d) For regulating or preventing the importation or exportation in
British ships or by any person to whom this Order applies of
arms or munitions of war, or any parts or ingredients thereof,
and for giving effect to any Treaty relating to the importation
or exportation of the same.
(e) For requiring Returns to be made of the nature, quantity, and
value of articles exported from or imported into his district, or
any part thereof, by or on account of any person to whom this
Order applies or in any British ship, and for prescribing the
times and manner at or in which, and the persons by whom,
such Returns are to be made.
(/) For the governance, visitation, care and superintendence of prisons.
60. (1) Any Regulations made under the preceding Article may provide
for forfeiture of any goods, receptacles, or things in relation to which, or to
the contents of which, any breach is committed of such Regulations, or of any
Treaty or any native or local law or custom, the observance of which is pro
vided for by such Regulations.
(2) Any person to whom this Order applies committing a breach of any
such Regulations shall, in addition to any forfeiture prescribed thereby, be
liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months,
or to a fine, or to both.
(3) Any fine imposed for a breach of Regulation shall not exceed 1,500
rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. : provided that in the case of any breach of any native or local law
relating to customs law, or under which the importation or exportation of any
goods is prohibited or restricted, the fine may extend to a sum equivalent to
treble the value of the goods in relation to which the breach is committed.
(4) King's Regulations shall not take effect until they are allowed by a
Secretary of State, or, with his previous or subsequent assent, by the Governor-
General of India in Council: provided that in case of urgency declared in
any such Regulations, the same shall take effect before such allowance, and
shall continue to have effect unless and until they are disallowed by the Secre
tary of State, or, with his previous or subsequent assent, by the Governor-
General of India in Council, and until notification of such disallowance is
received and published by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , and such disallowance shall
be without prejudice to anything done or suffered under such Regulations in
the meantime.
(5) All King's Regulations shall be published by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency.

(6) In this Article " breach of the Regulations " includes the breach of
any native or local law or custom, the observance of which is required by any
King's Regulations.
61. Judicial notice shall be taken of 'this Order and of the commence
ment thereof, and of the appointment of the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Political
Agent and Judicial Assistant, and of the constitution and limits of the Courts
and districts, and of the seals and signatures, and of any Rules and Regula
tions made or in force under this Order, and no proof shall be required of any
of such matters.
62. Nothing in this Order shall deprive the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , or an

The papers are divided between each of the original three files that make up the volume and are arranged within each file in chronological order running from the front toward the back of the volume. The second file begins on f. 78; the third file begins on f.103.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation system in use starts on the first page of the volume and continues to the end of the volume. The foliation appears in pencil in a sequence of circled numbers in the top right hand corner of each folio. The following foliation anomalies occur: folio 1 is followed by folios 1A and 1B; folio 77 is followed by 77A and 77B; folio 102 is followed by 102A and 102B; instead of folio 107 there appear folios 107A and 107B. A second foliation sequence of uncircled numbers starts at 1 on folio 3, then reverts again to 1 on folio 33 and continues to folio 76. Additional uncircled pagination starts at 1 on folio 83 and continues to folio 99.
