The letter is enclosing a copy of a letter from George Moor, Civil Auditor at Fort St George, 18 January 1818, which in turn encloses an extract from a letter from the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , regarding Jaffer Ali Khan's [Ja‘afar ‘Alī Khān] pension.

Russell also requests occasional confirmation from the Resident that Jaffer Ali Khan is still alive.
