The letter is acknowledging a communication dated 12 October 1816 and reporting on his efforts to punish the individuals who insulted John Williams in Shiraz in 1816.

Also enclosed is a letter from Willock to Sir Evan Nepean, 21 April 1817, which in turn encloses a copy of a letter to the Marquis of Hastings, Governor General of India, 21 April 1817, reporting that the individuals responsible have been punished.
