The letter and its enclosures relate to recent communications with the Joasmee [ Qāsimī One of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates; also used to refer to a confederation of seafaring Arabs led by the Qāsimī tribe from Ras al Khaima. ] chief, Shaikh Sultan ben Suggur [Sultan bin Saqr] over Persian actions in Lingah [Bandar-e Lengeh] and Jones’s insistence that the Shaikh should not interfere with the situation at Bandar-e Lengeh; exchanges with the British Agent at Sharjah [Hajjī Yaqoob], in light of reports of Wahabee [ Wahhābī A follower of the Islamic reform movement known as Wahhabism; also used to refer to the people and territories ruled by the Al-Saud family. ] forces making their way to Oman, probably in response to the Arab coast Shaikhs being in arrears on their annual tribute payments to the Wahhābī A follower of the Islamic reform movement known as Wahhabism; also used to refer to the people and territories ruled by the Al-Saud family. chief.
