The letter and its enslosures relate to affairs on the Arab and Persian coasts of the Gulf, including the signing of a truce between the tribes of Himreyeh [Ḩamrīyah] and the brother of the Joasmee [ Qāsimī One of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates; also used to refer to a confederation of seafaring Arabs led by the Qāsimī tribe from Ras al Khaima. ] chief of Ra’s al-Khaymah. The letter includes the following enclosures:
1. The translated purport of a letter (folios 112-13) from Hajee Yacoob [Hajjī Yaqoob], the British Agent at Sharjah, to Jones, dated 14 June 1856, describing the current situation on the Arab coast, Yaqoob’s role in the mediation betweem Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr and the Ḩamrīyah tribes, meetings and exchanges with the various Shaikhs of the Arab coast;
2. The translated purport of a letter (folio 114) from Saleh ben Suggur [bin Saqr], brother of the Joasmee [ Qāsimī One of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates; also used to refer to a confederation of seafaring Arabs led by the Qāsimī tribe from Ras al Khaima. ] chief, to Jones, dated 12 June 1856, describing negotiations for a truce between the Arab shaikhs, and the restoration of slaves to their original masters;
3. The translated purport of a letter (folio 115) from Jones to Shaikh Mahomed ben Suggur [Muḥammad bin Saqr], chief of Sharjah, dated 27 June 1856, with details of the financial terms of the truce.
