Letter giving copy of instructions issued to the Superintendent of Marine and Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. on how the cruisers allocated to enforce the stipulations of the treaty concluded by Major General Sir William Grant Keir with the 'petty Arab states', should act in various situations. These instructions were in a letter (No. 1020 of 1821, from F. Warden, Bombay Castle to Henry Meriton, Superintendent of Marine). If a Boat will neither show its colours nor come to it should be fired over. If there are good ground for suspecting a vessel to be a pirate it could be fired into. Register and port clearances could be called for; if there were irregularities then warnings could be given.
