Content

Collection of twenty treatises (plus shorter notes and excerpts) relating to mathematics, philosophy, history and related subjects, including a number of Graeco-Arabic texts.

The manuscript was copied in Dhū al-Qa‘dah 639/May 1242 at least in part from an exemplar that was copied in 'the west side of the city of Mahdīyah (بناحية المغرب بمدينة المهدية)' on 11 Rabī‘ I 531/7 December 1136 (see colophons of items sixteen, f. 172v, lines 11-16; and item eighteen f. 178r, lines 3-4).

• (1) Rāzī (رازي), Kitāb al-sīrah al-falsafīyah (كتاب السيرة الفلسفية) (ff. 1v-5v);
• (2) Ibn Abī Thawr al-Mawṣilī (‫ابن أبي ثور الموصلي‬), Maqālah fī al-nafs (‫(مقالة في النفس‬ (ff. 6r-12r);
• (3) Thābit ibn Qurrah (ثابت بن قرّة), Min masā’il allātī sa’ala ‘anhā Abū Musá ‘Isá ibn Asad (من مسائل التي سأل عنها أبو موسى عيسى بن أسد) (ff 12v-16v);
• (4) Abū al-Najā al-Fāriḍ (أبو النجا الفارض), Kitāb al-khamsīn mas’alah fī kasr al-manṭiq (كتاب الخمسين مسئلة في كسر المنطق) (ff. 16v-26v);
• (5) Sinān ibn Thābit (سنان بن ثابت), Sīyāsat al-nufūs (سياسة النفوس) (ff. 26v-31v);
• (6) Risālah tataḍammān ādāb wa-ḥikmah (رسالة تتضمن آدآب وحكمة) (ff. 31v-33r);
• (7) Ḥasan ibn Sahl (حسن بن سهل), Qaul fī al-akhbār allātī yukhbir bihā kathīrūn (قول في الأخبار التي يخبر بها كثيرون) (ff. 33v-40v);
• (8) Zajjājī (زجاجي), Sharḥ Risālat adab al-kātib (شرح رسالة أدب الكاتب) (ff. 41r-58v);
• (9) Ibn Abī Ṭāhir (إبن أبي طاهر), al-Mukhtṣar fī al-qirānāt المختصر في القرانات (ff. 59r-63v);
• (10) al-Juz’ al-awwal min kitāb al-jafar (الجزء الأول من كتاب الجفر) (ff. 64r-81r);
• (11) Ptolemy (بطلميوس) Kitāb fī al-hay’ah al-musammá al-iqtiṣāṣ (كتاب في الهيئة المسمى بالاقتصاص) (ff. 81v-102v);
• (12) Zarqālī (زرقالي), Kitāb al-‘aml bil-ṣafīḥah al-zījīyah كتاب العمل بالصفيحة الزيجية (ff. 103r-107v);
• (13) Thābit ibn Qurrah (ثابت بن قرّة), Kitāb fī ḥisāb ru’yat al-ahillah (كتاب في حساب رؤية الأهلّة) (ff. 108r-113r);
• (14) Avicenna (ابن سينا), Risālah fī lā taqarrara ‘indihi fī ḥujaj al-muthbitīn lil-māḍī mubdā’an zamānīyan wa-taḥwīlihā ilá al-qīyāsāt (رسالة في ما تقرر عنده في حجج المثبتين للماضي مبداءً زمانيًا وتحويلها إلى القياسات) (ff. 113v-121v);

• (19) Abū al-Majd ibn ‘Aṭīyah (أبو المجد بن عطية), Maqālah fī al-ḍarb wa-l-qismah bil-hindī min ghayr maḥw wa-la naql (مقالة في الضرب والقسمة بالهندي من غير محو ولا نقل) (ff. 179r-188r);
