Translation of a letter 0 ?th Pabi-ul-Awel ipoo from
Homeyd bin Abdullah Chief of Ras-el-Khynah, to the Pblitlcal
Resident in the F^rsian Gulf, Bushir®.
F 3 garding the discussion which toCc place between me and
the >sjent Haji Abool Kasim regarding the Island of Tomb, which
he has communicated to you, I beg to inform you that now when
ne came here, I saw your letter to him and comes of the accom
paniments and when I looked into these rories I was exceedingly
surprised, notwithstanding having with me lette-s from two late
Governors with ana their seals, vi7, Shailrh Khaleefah bin F ®eed
and his son Ali Bin Khal««fah, proving the Island of Tomb to be
long to the Kawasim of Oman. Haji Abool Kisim has seer there let
ters and I have given him copies for transmission to you, so that
it may be confirmed to you that it is the property of the Kawasim
of Oman and does not belong to the mainland of Pras at all. You
have mentioned in the Agent's letter that I should be on friendly
terms with the Governor of Lingah. This is the best of my wishes.
I am always promoting friendship and good unders + ending with all
menfincluding) the Governor of Lin^ah and others, but if I suffer
loss from them I am unable fto bear it) and the British Government
will not agree to the country of the Arabs being considered fa?
belonging) to the Persians. Moreover I fear of changes in the
government and fexisting"* affairs of Lingah and the Inclusion of
the island in the limits of Pars and the matter becoming graver
than this. In the time of my late father, Shaikh Sultan bin
Sukkar, correspondence had taken place between him and Colonel
Felly during the Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. of Haji Yacoob, when the people of Debar
committed aggression on the Island of Abu Musa, Perhaps this is 6n
the Government records and you will please look into it.
I hO)pe you will .prohibit the Governor Ling^h fron fgoing
to) this Island and from making any changes or alterations there
without my permission.
