Translation of a letter from the Chief of Raa-el-
Kheimah, Sheikh Horaeid bin Abdullah, to the
Residency
An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India.
Agent Mohajamad E a shir.
(Dated 5th Zilhijjah 1289 = 18th February 1873).
It is not hidden from you, and you know that those
Islands of the sea (viz) Tomb, Abu Musa and Sir are the
properties of the Qowacin of Oman and dependencies of ours,
Abu Musa belonging to Shargah and Tomb to Ras-el-Kheimah
at present, otherwise they all belonged to our late (grand)
father Sheikh Sultan. Now, this year, grass has been
destroyed in our side owing to abundance of locuste and we
sent our horses and all the animals to the Island of Tomb.
And I have received a report that after the "id" (festival)
the A1 Bu Someith will go over to the island and consume
the vegetation which is therej and this is detrimental to
us j and during our interview with brother Sheikh Khali fall
I informed him (of this) but he has negligence and pre-
crastination. So, please warn them and note that if they
passed over to the island I will. Inevitably, send men to
turn them out of it and no blame will attach with me.
I have informed you of this, so that you may be aware of
those circumstances. I expect a reply and salaams.
