olearly that of i;lBt Rabi-el-Thani 1324. He never seriously quote
any other, though in other places he pretends that he sent Abdul
Latif a copy of the Contract with translayion alongside vide
Enclosure 14 lines 14 and 15.

to Abu ?'usa with a German Flag to protect the rights of this
Company gives us reasonable grounds to suppose that were the
pretended s^are of Messrs Wonckhaus in the leas®, allowed t®
stand, the first thing the G®raan Finn would do in the event of
a dispute with the Sheikh of JShargah or other Concessionaires
would be to hoist the German Flag over the Mines. The evident
possibility of such action on their part seems to bring the Case
within the scope of Article III of the Treaty of 1892 with the
Trucial Oheikhs.
Lease to a British subject is quite a different matter, be
cause if the latter gives trouble the protecting power can at
one® clear him out, and there is no question ofnoomplioation
arising from the presence of a foreign flag.
