regarding the Abu Musa Dlaputo,
\ 1) „ In cstae w# might at some future time want to ecquire the
Island of Abu Musa and in view of the faot that the German Case
admits that the Island is part of the territory of the sheikh of
Jhargah and he under our protection, it seems unncessary for us
to eay anything more than that and better for us not to nuggest
that the island is the property of the tribe vested in a Ruling
Sheikh, who has no power to alienate. As a matter of faot the
Jowasim tribes have dwindled down to about a dozen members, all
immediate relations of the present Sheikh, so that he and his
family are now synonymous with the "Jowasim tribe".
(2). Sheikh Salim scouts the idea that the Germans can possess
any documents indicating ownership by him, as alleged in para
graph (1) of their Case,
(3), There is nothing remarkable in Sheikh Sagar having asked for
a share in the oxide company nor is his doing so in any way in
compatible with his ownership of the island. On the contrary
it seems perfectly natural for a person placed in the position
of him ol? Sheikh Salim to wish to beoone a sleeping partner in
such a concern and to have a share in th® profits if there were
going to be any. As soon as he saw that on the contrary he might
have to put his hand in his pocket he severed his conneotion
with the speoulation.
(4). The Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Agent at Shargah keeps press-books for his
private correspondence. He went through these with m® but one or
two letters which appareently passed from him to Hassan either
had not been entered or were too faint to read. He assures me
however that he does not in the least fear anything that Hassan
can produce in his writing and that nothing exists mors committing
than is found in letters already forthcoming.
(5). Enclose 3 of the German Case. The words " So long as the
mines are workable and in lease* clearly show that the termination
of the lease by either party was contemplated.
