In reference to the Island of Abu Muea, it Is well known to every
body that it is the property of the £hei>h8 of the Joimeia of
Oman and on that point there is no doubt. As to the residence of
my unci© in it the facte of the matter are as explained below.
Prom olden days, from the tiiae of my ancestors Sheikh Sultan
and others, it was their habit in the days of epring after a fall
of rain and the oprouting of vegetation to send their live©took
to the Island of Abu lum for grassingf and also a number of our
subjects from Shargah and Khan habitually nojoumed on the island
during the winter for fishing purposes and had houoes and huts
there. In the year 1500 Hijrl Shaikh Calim who was then Ruling
Chief of shargah after sending his livestock there as usual went
over to the ialand and by ihe fate ordained by God the populace
called upon roe to become their ruler in place of Sheikh Sallm, and
I accepted their call and occupied the post of the Sheikhdoo. It
was then open to sae to expel Sheikh Sal Ira Brom Abu "uea Island
and 1 addressed the Resident in the Persian Oulf on the subject
In letters which mat be available on your records; the first was
dated SSnd Rabl-uiwwal 1301 and the second 14th Rabl II 1501
but the Resident pressed tne to -.make a peaceable settlement so that
there might be no cause for a breach of the saaritirae peace * Ac
cordingly ne agreed that I would set apart for Sheikh Salla

pension for his subsistence, every year 600 dollars. That settle-
went afterwards became void by jay not being able to pay the amount
fixed, and subsequently, a second agreement was come to between
us under which I was to pay him yearly 400 dollars and also the
Income derived from the island of Sir Abu iTuair which was expented
to approach £00 dollars. This Agreement also became void and In
the year ISOfi we made a third agreement with sheikh Sallm by the
mediation of the uovernment Agent, and in view of the fact that up
to this agreement no income had beeh obtainable from Sir Abu liuair
for Sheikh Sallm, mention of the island was omitted and hie pension
retsained
