Letter forwarding two letters from the Government of India, Nos. 346 and 361, regarding the reply to be given to the Maskat [Muscat] envoys and the attitude to be adopted towards Sayed Salem [Salim II bin Thuwaini] and to seek out a suitable person to send to Maskat.
- Letter No. 346 from John William Shaw Wylie, Under-Secretary to the Government of India, 11 April 1866 and No. 361 from William Muir, The secretary to the Government of India, 18 April 1866, approving the maintenance of official relations with the de-facto Government of Maskat and the continuation of communications via envoys. The letters go on to advise careful watching of matters in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; to adopt practical matters to protect the telegraph stations; and to find an appropriate Native Agent Non-British agents affiliated with the British Government. to handle commercial matters at Maskat.
