The notes are arranged chronologically and refer to documents within the volume; they give a brief description of the correspondence with reference numbers, which refer back to that correspondence in the volume.

The numbering commences at the title page with 1, 1A, 1B; and terminates with 102, which is the last number given to the fourth folio from the back of the volume.
