Letter enclosing a copy of letter No.37, Political, from Lord Cranborne, India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. dated 28 February 1867 regarding the British Government's endorsement of Syud Saulem [Salim II bin Thuwaini] as de facto successor to his late father Syed Thoeynee [Thuwaini bin Said] at Muscat and commending the actions of Colonel Pelly in maintaining the maritime peace by threatening to regard Syed Torkee [Turki bin Said] as a public enemy and mediating an agreement between Syed Saulem and Syed Torkee.

The letter goes on to praise Pelly's tact and concilliatory demeanour and to concur with the high estimation that the Governor of Bombay has formed of Pelly.
