Letter regarding Pelly coming to Kurrachee [Karachi] at the end of the month, and Merewether's fears that he will be too late to go to Simlah [Simla] as the Viceroy is rumoured to be departing there for the Punjab on the 13 October, before coming on to Kurrachee in early November and then to Bombay before finishing in Central India where he will invest the Begum Courteous or formal title for (usually Muslim) women of elite status, especially of Turko-Mongol lineage. of Bhopal (Sultan Shah Jahan) with the G C (Grand Knight Commander) of the Star of India.
The letter goes on to discuss a costume ball that is being organised by the Judicial Commandant Raymond West and his wife Clementina.
The letter concludes by reporting that the ultimatum issued by Merewether to the Khan of Kelat has not yet arrived there, and that he hopes the threat of a British withdrawal from there will be sufficient to resolve the situation.
