Letter regarding Pelly's illness whilst visiting Muscat, and expressing Merewether's regret that Pelly could not come to Kurrachee [Karachi] to rest and recover there.

The letter also discusses the recent death of [Sidney?] Smith, who had been serving as an Assistant to Pelly in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; a rebellion taking place in northern Beloochistan [Baluchistan]; and Frederic Goldsmid having departed England for Bunder Abbass [Bandar Abbas] in order to continue his work on the Seistan [Sīstān] boundary issue.
