Letter regarding the continued unsettled state of Muscat affairs, its effect on Trade and relations on the Mekran Coast; and affairs in Gwadur [Gwadar] including the possibility of a Coup d'Etat to overthrow the current Wali, and concerns for Major Edward Charles Ross's position there should that happen.
The letter goes on to discuss the war in Europe (Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871) including General Bismark's strategy against Napoleon III; the likelihood of other nations being dragged into it; and the question of who Britain might side with if they were to be involved.
