small stream.
A much-used road, easy for wheels, from Chianeh or Naghir-
deh along the lake shore through Dlzeh, joins route here.
Seshakhan, ^ m. to r. on the lake shore. Mud fort 300 yds.
to 1. Patches of cultivation. Bash Agal village.
Eeach margin of a wide extent of marsh which may be
covered by the waters of the lake.
Cross low ridge of a spur from 1., alt. 4,925 ft., and descend
from ridge soon turning Wj
An upper track branches off, and avoids Jairan (m. 142^,
below), going round it.
Dolameh. village to r.
Pass another Dolameh about 1 m. up valley to 1.
Mehki, m. to r.
Skirt edge of lake for 1 m. with gentle ascent up slopes of
hills coming down to its shores.
Bnzur Gabad. Continue generally NW. A range of low
hills close on 1. Wide flats stretching towards the lake,
and alternate patches of cultivation and swamp.
Cruldan on r. bank of a stream; through winding lanes,
much cultivation, and enclosed country. Cross low
spurs.
Ford the Derim Qal'ah Chai, a tepid stream, 10 yds. wide
and 1 ft. deep.
Over some open ground and through a few gardens to
Jairan. Lake Urmia is 2 m. E. and the hills about
the same distance W. of the village, which forms a kind
of southern limit to the gardens extending on this side
of Urmia.
Route now goes in general direction NW. to Urmia.
From Jairan road turns 1.
Cross the Barandiz Chai (Baran'u) by four-arched brick
bridge. Stream when not in flood is narrow, about
10 yds. wide and 3 ft. deep, with easy gravelly bottom
and just fordable, but volume of water is considerable.
Sardaru village.
Bizehtekeh, 250 houses. Beyond this, join for a short
distance to track from Ushnu to Urmia 60 c,
m. 56-|-75), which crosses easy cultivated country. Road
skirts stream.
Road turns off towards Fort Murad Ali.

This volume is A Handbook of Mesopotamia, Volume IV, Northern Mesopotamia and Central Kurdistan (Admiralty War Staff Intelligence Division, April, 1917), covering Mesopotamia north of the line joining Rowanduz, Mosul, Meskeneh [Maskanah], and Aleppo, up to Van, Bitlis, Diarbekr, and Mar‘ash.
