I have the honour to report on the activities of Khan sahib

It was hoped that the presentation of the C*1 .3. would have
removed the constant complaint of Yusuf Kanoo that his past
services had been insufficiently rewarded f A^kept him a loyal
supporter of the policy of H . m . G . with regard to local affairs.
I fear however that this is not the case.l have recently been
looking up his file / <5; I attach hereto,a copy of notes made by
various Political gents.which it may be sQ well AJwti^be on
record in the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. files.
You will recollect his absurd attitude on the
•ccassion of your visit hero / & tho fact that he took umbrage
at not having been consulted in regard to affairs.since then/
he has been persis^tently oppossed to everything which Shaik
Mamad or the Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. ha^o done.He undoubtedly advised Shaik
iJiasa not to accept the allowance made to him,but to demand
Rs JO,000 per mensem. In the Dowasir case,he tried to stir
up the sunnis as much as possible,though he declined to come
to the Agoncy when requested,to intercede for Shaik Ahmad A1
Do sari, knowing that he would gEtoanr achieve no result.
He never comes to the Agerncy to visit the P.A. & has given
out that he has retired froii Politics and overywhore implies
that it is because he cannot agree with tho Governments policy
in Bahrain as regards A1 Khalifeh.He omits to say that this
policy no longer offers him the opportunities for intrigue
which he previously enjoyed. Having failed in sevewl attempts
to stir up tho 3unni tribes,mainly because he will not openly

This file contains correspondence that relates primarily to Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa and an Egyptian individual referred to as Mullah Hafiz (Hafidh).

Abdullah's responsibility for a number of abuses committed against the native population of Bahrain (the Baharna) is discussed as is Hafiz's role as Abdullah's 'right-hand man' (folio 94) in these actions. Hafiz's expulsion from Bahrain and subsequent travels around the region are discussed, including his appointment as a member of the Nejd delegation to Bahrain by Bin Saud. A copy of Hafiz's Sultanate of Nejd Passport is contained on folio 93.

Other topics discussed include the activities in Bahrain of local trader and prominent figure, Yusuf Kanoo, the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. Clive Daly's desire for leave and an idea for Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to visit Britain with him.

Also included are a letter from the British Consulate in Syria regarding an article that appeared in the Syrian press attacking the British role in Bahrain and an interview with Shaikh Hamad upon his return from Britain that was published in the 'Times of Mesopotamia' in 1925.
