The letter is enclosing a translation of a firmaun [ firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). ] from Prince Hossain Ali Meerza [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā] regarding the property of a Persian merchant, the late Seyd Saduck seized at Calcutta. The Prince is demanding that the seized property, detailed in the letter, should be restored to its rightful owners.
