In this letter, William Bruce, Resident at Bushire, requests that Longlands receive on board his ship the five surviving members from the Honourable Company cruiser Ariel, which foundered on 18 March 1820. Bruce instructs Longlands to make out a bill for any provisions supplied, plus the customary passage charge, both of which Bruce has requested that the Honourable Governor in Council, Mountstuart Elphinstone, direct to be paid to Longlands.
