A short anonymous treatise on the construction and use of an instrument called the 'pipe (الأنبوبة; see f. 29v, line 7)', which functions similarly to a spirit level to ascertain the levelness of a surface.

There is a diagram of the instrument on f. 30v. The 'tube (الأنبوبة)' is suspended from a chord (خيط) that runs through it and is fixed to a 'wooden plank (خشبة)' at either end, with a plumbline (شاقول) running from the two points at which the chords are attached to the planks.

Begins (f. 29v, lines 2-3):

مسئلة في معرفة كيفية وزن الأراضي والأماكن والمراد بذلك معرفة قدر

ارتفاع بعضها أو انخفاضه عن بعض أو معرفة تساوي البعضين ارتفاعًا وانخفاضًا وتظهر

فائدة ذلك عند إرادة نقل الماء من موضع إلى موضع ...

Ends (f. 30r, line 2-4):

... فإن البعضان متساويين كانت الجهتان أيضًا

متساويين وإن كان أحد البعضين أكثر كانت ذات الأكثر من الجهتين أرفع من الأخرى

فقرر الوصل (؟) بين البعضين وهذه صورة الآلات (!) المذكورة والحمد لله رب العالمين
