Letter informing Hojel that the Home Government have sanctioned the two assistantships in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and advising him to think carefully before accepting a permanent appointment in the Gulf rather than remaining in Bombay.
The letter goes on to discuss the assistantships and advising that although the Junior assistantship pays better its holder will be stationed around the Gulf, whereas the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Surgeon will be based with the Resident.
The letter concludes by advising Hojel to consider his options and then submit his decision to His Excellency the Governor of Bombay.
