About this item
- Content
The letter is acknowledging a dispatch (no. 45), dated 12 November 1826, which informed the Bombay Government of the Resident's failure to effect a peace settlement between Rahma bin Janber [Raḥmah bin Jābir], Shaikh of the Jalahamah tribe, and his neighbours. It explains that the British cannot interfere in wars taking place within the Arabian interior, but it clarifies that the said Chieftain should not be permitted to engage in piracy. It notes that the Government approves of the Resident having intervened once the Chieftain began to target neutral boats.
It further notes that a recent survey of the Bay of Kateef [Al-Qaṭīf] will be provided to company cruizers operating in the Gulf.
