The letter encloses a translation and account of the Tenets of the Ibadhi Sect of 'Oman' taken from a manuscript Arabic work entitled 'The Keshf-ul-Ghummeh of the Sheikh Sirhân bin Mohammed-el-Alawi, a native of 'Oman'.

The translation and notation was undertaken by Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Charles Ross and certified as a true copy by Joseph Charles Edwards, Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , 11 July 1872.
