The letter is a covering letter, enclosing an extract from a dispatch from the Honourable Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 1 March 1820. The dispatch approves of the actions taken by Lieutenant Mallard, and agrees for his acquittal and restoration to duty. A note in the margin of the dispatch suggests that the approval relates to Mallard's decision to jettison overboard 35 of 55 cases of mirrors, that were being transported to the King of Persia. The Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. recognise that this action was 'indispensible for the preservation of the ship and crew'.
